Castleford Tigers boss Daryl Powell was able to celebrate last night after being named Super League coach of the year at the Man of Steel Awards dinner in Manchester.

Powell helped make it a night to remember for the Tigers as he picked up the coveted award, as voted for by his fellow coaches, in recognition of his efforts in guiding the club to their most successful Super League season so far.

Castleford finished in their highest position in Super League history, played their first-ever home game in the play-offs and reached the Challenge Cup final under the guidance of former Featherstone Rovers and Leeds coach Powell in his first full season at the Mend-A-Hose jungle.

It was a real night to remember for the Tigers as their success was also reflected with Daryl Clark winning the Steve Prescott Man of Steel and young player of the year.

He follows in the footsteps of Rangi Chase and Adrian Vowles who previously won the prestigious award while playing for Cas.
