To the surprise of many supporters Castleford Tigers have lifted their club suspension on Australian winger Justin Carney.

The 27-year-old missed the Tigers’ last three matches of the Super League season after being stood down pending the outcome of an internal investigation and was thought to have played his last game for the club.

However, the club said today that the matter has been dealt with and that the former Sydney Roosters and Canberra Raiders player has now returned to the club.

A brief statement on the club website said: “Castleford Tigers can confirm that following a period of suspension, Justin Carney has returned to the club.

“The matter has been dealt with internally and neither the club nor the player wish to comment further.”

Carney has been a big success since he joined the Super League club almost three years ago, scoring 63 tries in 62 appearances.

Last year he signed a new five-year deal with Castleford and recently expressed an interest in playing for England, for who he qualifies under the residency rule later this year.
