TROPHY TEST: Frickley boss Karl Rose will look to guide his men to victory against Brigg Town on Saturday.

Frickley Athletic will face an on-song Brigg Town side in the FA Trophy First Qualifying Round at Westfield Lane on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

The Blues will be favourites to progress thanks to home advantage and their status higher up the football pyramid but Town, of Evo-Stik Division 1 South, will arrive in South Elmsall in confident mood.

Mick Gray’s men go into the match unbeaten in five matches in all competitions and will look to cause a mini upset against Karl Rose’s side.

Rose was disappointed to see his side make an early exit from the FA Cup, however, and will be eager to make amends in the FA Trophy, another competition that can boost the club’s coffers.

He will have to be wary of two former Blues players who played a big part in helping Town face Frickley thanks to victory over Bamber Bridge in the previous round,

Scott Hellewell and Danny Buttle scored the goals to see Town progress and the pair will be keen to impress on their returns to South Elmsall.

But Rose will look to striker Gavin Allott to fire his side into the next round after scoring twice on his return to action in the 2-2 draw against Kings Lynn on Tuesday night.

Frickley return to league action on Tuesday night when they visit Barwell (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Blues will host Barnsley-based Shaw Lane Aquaforce in the third round of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup.

A slender 1-0 victory at Harworth Colliery saw Frickley progress through the last round and book a date with their Barnsley-based opponents in the week of November 9.

The sides met at Westfield Lane in pre-season and the Blues cruised to a 3-0 win but next month’s match is set to be a more competitive affair with cup progression at stake.
