HEMSWORTH MW pushed higher league opposition Tadcaster Albion all the way before losing 2-1 in their FA Cup extra preliminary round tie on Saturday.

The game proved to be a scrappy one but both sides created plenty of chances and visitors Albion were the first to threaten on 16 minutes when Jamie Hopcut’s shot beat Welfare goalkeeper Dale Walstow but hit the post

The hosts responded when Andy Hayward went close but they lost Ryan Pleasants to an ankle injury before man of the match Walstow was forced into two superb saves to keep the sides locked at 0-0 going into the break.

Northern Counties Premier Division side Albion broke the deadlock through Carl Stewart on 67 minutes and he was on target again 10 minutes later to extend the advantage.

But Hemsworth refused to lie down and Andy Hayward reduced the deficit with seven minutes remaining.

The home side piled on the pressure in the closing stages but Albion held on to progress to the next round.
