FRICKLEY Athletic have started their pre-season squad building by announcing three new signings.
Michael Simpkins, Alex Callery and Brad Grayson have all joined the South Elmsall club for the forthcoming Evo-Stik Premier Division campaign.
Simpkins, a 32-year-old defender, arrives from Worksop Town where he was club captain last season, while 28-year-old Alex Callery, who Frickley fans will know well from a previous spell at Westfield Lane, arrives from Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Both penned one-year deals with Frickley last night.
Young striker Grayson has joined the club from npower Championship side Doncaster Rovers.
And Blues boss Peter Rinkcavage is delight to land the trio.
“Simmo [Michael Simpkins] was my first signing last summer for Worksop and he is my first signing this summer too. He brings superb leadership qualities and is a great competitor. He is a massive presence both on and off the field and I know he will prove to be a great acquisition for us.
“I have known Alex [Callery] for a number of years and I have always admired him a as a player. As he has got older and more experienced I believe he has become one of the best central midfield players in the division and we get him right in his peak years.
“A lot of people believe that Brad [Grayson] was unlucky not get a new deal at Doncaster. He has scored a lot of goals in the youth team there and made an appearance for the first team last season. He is only 18 and I have seen enough of him to believe that he has a really bright future in the game.”
Rinkcavage has also confirmed that agreements are in place to sign other plays but they can’t be registered until Friday, July 1.
He said: “We have verbal agreements with a number of players and we are currently in talks with others. We have also kept all of the players from last year that we were hoping to keep. We can’t name these players yet unfortunately but I am very happy with the way things are progressing and there may be more news in the near future.”
