FRICKLEY Athletic maintained their fine pre-season form with a 3-1 victory over Brodsworth MW at the Tech5 Stadium on Monday night.
Welfare shocked the Blues with a first minute opener before the hosts fought back with three second-half goals to grab victory in their penultimate friendly before the new season.
Only 40 seconds had elapsed when Blues goalkeeper Ben Saynor attempted a clearance and saw the ball strike Craig Hobson, who reacted quickly to screw in an acute angled 20-yard drive and put Brodsworth in front.
The early strike inspired the visitors and unsettled the Frickley rhythm, but the Blues soon started to show their paces with Leon Henry putting in a dangerous low cross and Bradley Grayson seeing his effort blocked on the line.
Another penetrating run from Henry nine minutes later saw him find Lee Bennett, who turned his man and hit a strong drive which MW goalkeeper Rick Watson saved.
Lincoln Adams linked up with the Blues attack in the 38th minute and put a glancing header inches wide, while Brodsworth came back, Ian Sharpe bursting clear three minutes later only to be foiled by a point-blank save from Saynor.
Frickley equalised in the 54th minute, Henry finding Grayson and his low cross was flicked in by Danny Walsh. They thought they’d taken the lead four minutes later when Jack Watts saw a header disallowed by the officials.
The visiting goal was almost under siege, Watts and Grayson having efforts diverted off the line in the 61st minute before Walsh lifted a shot just over the target.
There was no mistake in the 68th minute when a low cross by Henry was turned in from close range by Carl Jones to give Frickley a deserved lead.
Jones twice went close before turning provider in the 81st minute, picking out Ashley Longstaff but he fired over the top.
Grayson got clear in the 86th minute but saw his drive diverted off the line by Watson although he beat the visiting stopper to another through ball two minutes later and found the net to complete the home tally.
