FRICKLEY Athletic will be playing Evo-Stik Premier Division football next season after avoiding a final day relegation scare.
The Blues fell to a 1-0 home defeat against promotion-chasing North Ferriby United on Easter Monday but were celebrating at the final whistle after other results went their way.
Burscough and Hucknall Town both fell to defeats on the final day of the season, meaning Peter Rinkcavage’s men avoided dropping into the bottom four.
The Blues were dealt a blow on Good Friday when they conceded a stoppage-time equaliser at Marine. But ironically it was Marine who inflicted a 2-1 defeat on Burscough to scupper their hopes of survival, while Hucknall lost 2-0 at Worksop Town, Rinkcavage’s former club.
Paul Harsley netted the winner for Ferriby at the Tech5 Stadium, but the visitors owed their victory to in-form goalkeeper Steve Wilson, who made a string of fine saves in the second half to keep the hosts out.
Failure to find the back of the net didn’t cost the South Elmsall side though as they celebrated survival following the final whistle.
