RYAN Blinkhorn’s tenth-minute try was enough to give Hemsworth RUFC a huge win at promotion rivals Harrogate Pythons on Saturday.
The try provided the only points of a close-fought match as both sides battled against blustery conditions at Claro Road.
The victory puts the Moxon Fields men three points clear of the Pythons, who were nilled for the first time this season thanks to some superb Hemsworth defence.
And Hemsworth head coach Mark Wilson was delighted with his side’s performance in what he called an “absolute cracker” of a game.
“We had a lot of possession, probably about 70 per cent, and the defence did really, really well,” he said.
“It was blowing a gale and things were really difficult for both sides, especially when we were kicking for territory”
He continued: “We deserved the win. To Harrogate’s credit they kept battling right until the end but our defence was solid.”
Hemsworth are now in pole position for one of the top-two promotion places in Yorkshire Division Four.
They’re back on home soil this Saturday when league leaders Leeds Medics and Dentists visit.
