HEMSWORTH RUFC missed out on a place in the Yorkshire Silver Trophy final when they slumped to a 33-3 home defeat against Baildon on Sunday.
The Moxon Fields men put up a good battle against their higher-division opponents in the first half, trailing just 6-3 approaching half-time before JJ O’Connell crossed for a crucial Baildon try.
Dave Gorton had kicked Hemsworth’s only points, while Jake Duxbury added two penalties for the visitors in the first half.
O’Connell’s try gave the visitors the second-half momentum, however, and they cruised into the final and a date with Yorkshire Division 3 rivals Thornesians.
The result brings Hemsworth’s season to a close but at least they’ll have the chance to face Baildon again next season thanks to securing promotion from Yorkshire Division 4.
