Members of South Elmsall Town Council would like to express disappointment with the suspension of district councillor Steve Tulley from the Labour Group at Wakefield MDC for speaking out against the decision to withhold monies belonging to town and parishes within the district and in particular the south east of our neighbourhood.
During February 2014 Wakefield Council voted through its 2014/15 budget following recommendations by the cabinet.
The budget approved the removal of the council tax support grant to all town and parish councils within the district and this meant a reduction of £38,925.00 to South Elmsall and its residents.
The local authority (Wakefield MDC) is the only Labour-controlled authority in the country which has resolved not to pass on these vital funds.
Councillor Tulley, who represents South Elmsall and its electorate, conveyed his disappointment with this decision and reminded district councillors that this was contrary to central government’s expectation.
Councillor Tulley has since been suspended from the Wakefield Labour Group.
The town council offers its full support to Councillor Tulley and thanks him for his allegiance to South Elmsall and the wider parishes.
