CHILDREN from a Hemsworth school took part in a contest to name a fire engine.

The youngsters, from Grove Lea’s foundation stage, visited Hemsworth Fire Station earlier in the year, when they were allowed to play on the engines and were invited to take part in the competition to name one of them.

Pupils from the nursery then revisited the station last week to see James Nicklin, four, crowned winner of the contest with the name ‘Phoenix’.

Nursery teacher Debbie Lindley said: “We had a good response to the competition and the children had a really good try at coming up with some creative names.

“They have loved their visits up to the fire station and enjoyed taking part in the competition.”
