CHILDREN became heroes for the day when they transformed into life saving firefighters.
The youngsters from the Little Owls Children’s Centre, on Common Road, South Kirkby, dressed up in real uniforms and even got the chance to use equipment including the hose.
Firefighters from South Kirkby paid the children a visit on Friday where they spent time showing the youngsters about different aspects of their important role.
The six children that went along to the special event were also able to sit in the driving seat in the big red fire engine.
Nicki Bossons, parent support worker at the centre, said it was a fantastic day.
She said: “It was so lovely to see how the children reacted to the fire service.
“They absolutely loved it and really got stuck in with everything that was on offer for them. It made their day.”
The visit was part of the centre’s week long disability support scheme for children with additional needs. It was designed to give parents and children a break during the summer holidays.
Miss Bossons thanked the fire service.
