STUDENTS at a South Elmsall dance school have fought off stiff competition to perform in a regional production.

The five girls at Sugar Kane’s School of Dance won their place in the Regional Youth Ballet Company’s production of Les Sylphides - a non-narrative romantic ballet.

Ellie Fish, Emma Kennedy, Lucy Daley, Saffron Broad and Holly Somerfield were chosen after wowing the judges on their first attempt at auditions in York.

Their coach, Claire Kane, said: “We didn’t think much would come of it, we entered the auditions for the experience, so it’s fantastic that they all got a part.

“I watched them in auditions and they just shone head and shoulders above the rest.”

Saffron was also chosen to receive a scholarship and will get her costumes and tuition paid for.

The girls will perform with the company on October 12 and 13 in York.
