Warning over swimming in open waters
Firefighters have issued a warning of the dangers of swimming in open water during the summer months.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said that around 40 people drown in the UK after swimming in open water.
A spokesman added that people should not be tempted to jump into open water during the hot weather and should instead use certified facilities.
Ian Bicton, area manager for fire safety, said: “Although it is extremely warm, water temperatures will remain low, averaging around 10C.
“Our advice is to enjoy the current summer-like weather, but if do you feel like a swim, only use recognised pools and not open waters.”
