Upton bodybuilder Maurice ‘Mozz’ Felstead has been crowned Mr Universe.
The superfit 46-year-old, who first impressed after being named Mr Doncaster 20 years ago, took the ultimate international prize in the National Amateur Bodybuilding Association (NABBA) over 40s competition in Southport last weekend.
But he has now decided to hang up his dumbbells for good.
Mr Felstead, of Jacks Way, said: “It’s a great feeling of relief to be crowned Mr Universe because of everything I have had to put it into.
“I have eaten the same food at the same time every day for the last 11 months and I knew this was the last roll of the dice because it does really take it out of you.
“I’m going to go out on a high now. The time is right to retire. I have achieved what I wanted to and bodybuilding is different - it really is 24 hours a day, every day.”
Mr Felstead, whose pre-competition diet consisted of just turkey, potatoes and broccoli, played football for Hemsworth Miners Welfare before taking up weightlifting and then bodybuilding.
He has previously won the titles of Mr Yorkshire, Mr England and Mr Universe.
Mr Universe, won four times by actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, is considered the biggest title in amateur bodybuilding.
Mr Felstead added: “It was an amazing event. I was competing against bodybuilders from Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Canada, USA, Australia, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, New Zealand, Iran, Israel.”
