Two people were rescued by firefighters after a crash in Wakefield this morning including a 77-year-old woman.

Police say the 77-year-old was driving a blue Nissan Micra which was involved in a collision with a silver Ford Focus near Sainsburys on Ings Road close to the junction with Denby Dale Road, at around 9.50am today.

One person made their way out of one of the cars before emergency services arrived. Two others were trapped and had to be rescued by firefighters before being treated by paramedics.

The pensioner was taken to Leeds General Infirmary after suffering serious but not life threatening injuries.
