Motorists face delays as work on a £120m scheme to upgrade the M1 motorway near Wakefield continues.

The northbound carriageway at junction 39 at Durkar will be closed overnight on Friday.

Drivers will have to leave the motorway and re-enter via the entry slip of the junction.

The link road from the M1 northbound to the M62 westbound at junction 42 at Lofthouse will also be closed as part of the works.

It will be closed overnight on Saturday and Sunday.

All closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am and clearly signed diversions will be in place.

Slip roads on and off the motorway will also be closed.

The northbound entry slip at junction 39 at Durkar will be closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The southbound entry and exit slip roads will also be closed overnight on Friday and Monday.

The works are part of the Highways Agency scheme to upgrade the M1 between junction 39 and junction 42 to a ‘smart motorway.’

It is expected to be complete by next September.
