AN Upton teenager is appealing for donations so he can spend his gap year volunteering in Japan.

James Keeton, of Richmond Road, is hoping to fly to Tokyo in August to spend 12 months teaching English at a school and volunteering in the community.

The Minsthorpe Community College student needs to raise £5,000 before the end of June. The trip has been arranged through the Project Trust charity, which specialises in arranging long-term volunteering opportunities across the world for school leavers.

James, 18, is planning to use the experience to learn Japanese, which will be his chosen subject at university when he returns home.

He said: “I have always had a massive interest in studying Japanese and I am hoping this will help me. I just hope people will donate or sponsor me. I am really looking forward to it.”

To donate, call James on 01977 652576.
