Thieves ransacked a charity shop and made off with £2,000 worth of equipment.

Staff at the British Heart Foundation shop on Salter Row, Pontefract, discovered the break-in on Tuesday morning after burglars raided the shop overnight.

Police are appealing for witnesses after CCTV equipment due to be installed at the shop was stolen.

They said the burglary happened sometime between 5.15pm on Monday May 23, and 6.45am the following day.

PC Trevor Robinson said: “It is especially heartless to steal from a charity shop.

“We would ask anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of the shop or with information about the person or people responsible to please call Pontefract and Knottingley Neighbourhood Policing Team via 101.”
