PUPILS in South Elmsall had a sweet time when they celebrated the opening of a new school kitchen.
The youngsters, from Ash Grove J&I School, were thrilled with the new sink, worktops and a modern ‘island’, which were donated and installed by Mears Group, based at Langthwaite Grange Industrial Estate, South Kirkby, after a parent - who recently had a kitchen fitted by them - wrote to the company to ask for help. Tesco also donated a kettle and blender and the school purchased a new cooker and fridge-freezer.
Helen Laws, learning mentor at the school, said the previous kitchen was quite old and did not provide adequate worktop space and that the new kitchen would also benefit the after-school cooking club.
She said: “It’s absolutely fantastic and we are thrilled to bits. It means we can all stay in one room to cut, chop and then cook the food. It is wonderful and we can’t thank everyone enough for making this possible.”
