LADY Liquorice and Sir Sherbet Dip will welcome sweet-toothed revellers to Pontefract Liquorice Festival on Sunday.
The colourful characters will provide entertainment at the annual event, which will also play host to Friar Pomfret and Henry the Jester.
The festival will feature more than 50 market stalls, workshops, and performances and a series of talks about the famous plant and its association with the town.
Events will run from 11am to 4pm, and there will also be the chance to win a sweet treat supplied by festival sponsors Tangerine Confectionary.
To be in with a chance of winning, all people need to do is spot the Liquorice Festival window stickers in Pontefract, starting from now. Then visit the Tourist Information Marquee, next to The Buttercross, at the festival on the day.
Coun David Dagger, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for culture, said: “This competition is a great way to get the whole family involved in the festival, as they can work together and look for the Liquorice Festival stickers. It is a fantastic way to kick off this annual event.
“With the range of fun activities and entertainment planned it should prove a great day out for the whole family, guaranteed to keep the children entertained all day.”
There will be a balloon release at midday to celebrate the opening of the festival.
