THE SUN was shining for youngsters in Upton as they enjoyed a fun day.
More than 100 children went along to the event held on Upton sports field, near Waggon Lane, last Thursday.
Children took part in sack races, played games, jumped around on the bouncy castle, saddled up for bike rides and also had the chance to try out Kangoo boots – spring loaded, anti-gravity footwear.
The day was organised by the South East neighbourhood policing team (NPT), the NHS, Wakefield Council and Wakefield and District Housing.
Inspector Geoff Carter from the NPT said it was a really good day.
“It’s always great to get the whole community together and this was no exception.
“One issue we have is keeping kids occupied during the summer holidays and this was the perfect way to do it.
“It also helped us engage with the community, and let us get to know each other.”
He hoped that these fun days would become a regular event.
Insp Carter thanked Upton Parish Council for donating cash to buy drinks and sweets for the children.
