A refurbishment project at an arson-hit junior football club has been given a boost this week.

A new floor has been installed in Upton Football Club’s catering facility, which was burnt out by arsonists last August, causing around £20,000 of damage to the unit – the club’s main source of income.

Funding for the floor came from £2,675 raised at a concert in December organised by PC Stacey Caddick and £2,000 donated by Insp Geoff Carter from Proceeds of Crime Act funds.

Lee Pickin, club chairman, said: “If it wasn’t for community groups and the police pulling together to help us then we wouldn’t be as far on as we are with the refurbishments.

“We are hoping to re-open the catering cabin in June.”
