A MAN has appeared in court accused of sexually abusing two young children.

Colin Stevenson, 43, of West Street, South Kirkby, has been charged with six counts of sexual assault against a seven-year-old and a nine-year-old girl.

He appeared at Pontefract Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

He is also facing eleven charges of making indecent photographs of children.

Stevenson has also been accused of abusing his position of trust as an adult under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

The offences were said to take place between October 1 and November 18, 2010.

Prosecutor Andy Wills told the court Stevenson was alleged to have made the girls watch pornographic dvds and play computer games containing sexual content.

He told magistrates police had found more than 700 indecent photographs of children on his computer.

Of those 73 were classed as level four – the second most serious category of pornographic images.

Defending, Kim Foley said her client intended to plead not guilty to all the charges.

Stevenson spoke only to confirm his name, age and address during the short hearing.

He was released on bail but with conditions he is not to contact or attempt to contact either of his alleged victims.

Stevenson is expected to appear at Pontefract Magistrates’ Court in September, before the case is sent for trial at Leeds Crown Court at a later date.
