Organisers of South Elmsall‘s Westfield Centre food bank are appealing for food donations to help meet increasing demand.

Jim Tubman, chairman of the committee which runs the food bank, said: “To date we have been well supported by individuals, churches and businesses but our stocks are running low.

“We hope that the generosity of our local community will replenish the stock that is currently helping their neighbours.

“The numbers are growing and we are catering for more and more people.”

In August more than 70 food parcels were issued which helped feed 200 people.

Tesco in Hemsworth is supporting the food bank by holding a ‘food drive’ where shoppers can donate items.

It takes place This Friday and Saturday from 9am to 6pm.
