THE final bell has rung for the headteacher of a South Elmsall school.

Headtecher Kathy Litton, of Carlton J&I School, said her goodbyes to the school on Friday after taking early retirement.

Mrs Litton, 61, joined the school as a supply teacher more than 25 years ago and has remained at the school ever since. Pupils and staff had a picnic and held a special assembly to say their farewells.

She said: “This is such a fantastic school and I have been really fortunate to have worked here for so many years with such dedicated and hardworking people. The parents have always been very supportive and I can’t thank them enough.”

She plans to spend more time with her family but has not decided what else she wants to do with her time.

Mrs Litton, who was made headteacher at the school six years ago, said: “I have so many wonderful memories here and it will always have a special place in my heart. I have grown up here.

“I’m feeling really sad but I won’t miss the pressure put on schools and children with targets that are extremely difficult to reach.”
