A rugby fun day to raise cash in memory of M62 crash victim Bethany Jones is taking place on Sunday, August 18.

A Hemsworth team will take on an Air Ambulance Select team – including Bethany’s brother Ryan and Paul Rowan, whose wife Louise was injured in the crash – from 1.30am.

The air ambulance team will be captained by Ryan Burrows, from Leeds Carnegie RUFC.

Dragons ARLFC under 11s will take on Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks to kickstart the event at 11am.

There will also be post-match entertainment, including live music, a fundraising auction and a raffle.

Money raised throughout the day will be split between the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Beth’s Angel Fund, which was created to support the women injured in the incident.

Bethany, 18, and many of the other injured women had close family ties to players at Hemsworth Rugby Club.

Club president Brian May said: “The work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is well known to rugby clubs and other sporting bodies across the county, but in our case their involvement in the M62 tragedy touched a community,”

“That provides us with a real incentive to generate as much funding as possible from this event and hopefully the Yorkshire rugby fraternity will support our efforts in whatever way they can.”
