THE SKILL of the scrum was brought to Brierley when professional rugby stars dropped in to school to pass on their expertise.
Year five pupils from Brierley C of E Primary School were visited by Featherstone Rovers players last Thursday.
Hooker Andy Ellis and full back Ian Hardman called in and the school hall was transformed into a hub of activity.
Year five teacher Claire Hawkridge said: “It went very well. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get people like that in and the kids really enjoyed it.
“We do have a lot of visitors in school and most of them are very good but these were fantastic, they really were.”
The visit was one of four sessions being run by Rovers at the school and the youngsters were put through their paces in a game of tag rugby.
Mrs Hawkridge said that the visit taught he children important lessons in teamwork, respect and co-operation.
She added: “When we said it was rugby, some of the girls didn’t want to do it but they all loved it.
“The lads from Featherstone created a really good atmosphere. They were very professional and are great role models to the kids.”
