Pontefract’s Prince of Wales Hospice’s Light Up a Life campaign has already raised £5,000 through donations from people remembering their loved ones this Christmas.
The campaign - launched in partnership with the Express - offers the chance to sponsor a light in the hospice gardens and have their loved ones’ names, and who they are remembered by, displayed in books of remembrance in the hospice and at Pontefract and Airedale libraries.
The names will also be printed weekly in the Express until December 19.
Tom Belt, hospice fundraiser, said: “We can’t thank the Express enough for their support with our Light Up a Life campaign. We know the difference it makes.
“We hope many more people will remember their loves ones in the same way and help us to continue to provide the best possible care we can.”
Mo Cawthorn, who volunteers on the hospice’s reception desk, donates to the campaign every year in memory of her husband Mick.
She said: “It’s lovely to see people visit the books of remembrance each year. When they see their loved ones’ name, a lovely smile comes across their face as they remember the times they had together.”
Dedications must be sent to the hospice by December 11. You can sponsor a light by visiting www.pwh.org.uk or call 0844 248 4782.
