FIREFIGHTERS from South Elmsall are working hard to keep residents safe by organising a number of community action days.
The events, which started in Hemsworth at the beginning of April, are aimed at reducing the risk of house fires.
Crews from South Elmsall Fire Station and staff from the district’s fire prevention department have been visiting residents to offer free home fire safety checks and advice on reducing the risk of a blaze.
Crew commander Steve Holt said: “We visit an area for the majority of the day and ask residents if they are interested in a safety check. If they do not have smoke alarms, or if they are old and not working properly, we will fit new ones free of charge.
“We have already carried out a few events in Hemsworth and they have gone quite well so far.
“We are targeting areas that have been identified as a priority. It is all about reducing the risk of fire and keeping the community safe.”
The crews will be in Moorthorpe tomorrow and in Hemsworth on Sunday, May 15, Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19. They will visit Kinsley on Thursday, June 23, and Friday, June 24, South Elmsall on Saturday, May 16, Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27, and South Kirkby on Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8.
