Have your say

One of your readers last week (Express, April 19) asked questions about elected mayors in your letters’ page.

To clarify specific points raised - if the majority of votes are for an elected mayor in the Referendum on May 3 then that mayor would have jurisdiction over the whole of the Wakefield district, not just the city of Wakefield.

This role would be in addition to the number of elected members of council.

A leaflet giving information about the referendum on how Wakefield Council is run has been distributed to households across the district.

This and other information on the council elections and the referendum is available on the council website at www.wakefield.gov.uk/elections

Please do use your vote on May 3 and, if you are a postal voter, do return your forms as soon as possible.

Joanne Roney OBE

Wakefield Council Chief Executive and Returning Officer
