YOUNG children have helped design a new banner for the Churches Together group in Hemsworth.

Pupils from schools across the town were asked to come up with their best ideas for the banner, with Sacred Heart Catholic School, Highfield Road, chosen as the winner.

The new banner, which was stitched by women from Hemsworth Methodist Church, will be used when local churches come together for joint gatherings, such as the Walk of Witness on Good Friday.

The school also received £50, which will be used to buy some new religious education resources.

Headteacher Marlyn Morgan said the children came up with a number of different designs before deciding on the one they thought best represented the element of togetherness.

The final design entered into the competition was created by year 5 pupils Lily Hopes, Maisie Caunt, Zoe Ann Twiby and Bethany Denny.

Mrs Morgan said: “The children were encouraged to be inventive and they came up with some very creative designs. We were absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the winner.”
