IT was an event Jim Bowen would be proud of as a group of keen darts players endured a 24-hour game for charity.

The nine-man team from Hemsworth pub on Highfield Road, held the mammoth game on Saturday night to raise cash for the special care baby unit at Pinderfields Hospital.

Licensee of the Highfield Road pub, and organiser, Thomas McTasney, said it was a lot of fun for a great cause.

He said: “The team did a great job and want to thank them for their support.”

They raised around £500 from sponsorship and still have money coming in.

This event followed on from the success of the 24-hour pool match they held last month. That event managed to raise £2,000 for the same charity.

The pub have started a year-long charity campaign for the care unit, with a football game and music night set for 2013.

And Mr McTasney thinks they will raise £10,000 in total.
