Weightlifter Nick Hall is hoping to pick up a gold medal at the World Master Championships in Copenhagen in September.
The 50-year-old, who trains at Featherstone Weightlifting Club, has been sponsored by Castleford employers Lamson Building Products and CPM Contracts.
He will fly out to Denmark on September 3, ready for his lifting challenge on September 4, when he will be competing against 12 others from around the world.
Mr Hall, from Upton, will also be demonstrating his skills at Nostell Priory Steam Fair on Sunday and Monday. He will be supported by Olympic and Commonwealth competitors, including Rebekah Tiler, as well as weightlifting referees.
Mr Hall’s wife Tracy said he had overcome many challenges to get to the world championships.
She said: “Nick used to weightlift when he was younger but he missed the championships following an accident. A year later he lost his wife of 23 years and so he took time out to look after his children. He didn’t take it back up again until he was 48 and then there was another setback when he suffered an injury. But now he is ready to compete in the world champions. We are hoping he will get gold.”
