THE first bricks and mortar have been laid in a £3.32m scheme to build nearly 40 new homes in Havercroft.
Castleford-based Strategic Team Group has begun building 37 semi-detached and terraced houses on a three-acre plot on Madeley Road.
A new road and footpath network will also be built to cater for the new residents living in the two, three and four-bedroomed houses.
Andrew Watson, managing director at Strategic Team Group, said: “We have carried out extensive work for Yorkshire Housing for many years and this scheme will make a big difference to the local community.
“The 37 homes will be of high quality design and build, sustainable, and play a major role transforming the area while helping Yorkshire Housing meet affordable housing demand.”
The properties are due to be completed in April 2013, when social landlord Yorkshire Housing will let the homes at social housing rent levels and at 80 per cent of private market rent rates.

The scheme is part of a £15m contract Strategic Team Group has won with Yorkshire Housing that will see it build nearly 150 new homes in the next year in Leeds, Bradford and Barnsley.
