New signing Luke Danville came up with an 82nd minute winner as Toolstation NCE Division One leaders Hemsworth MW edged to a 2-1 win over much improved Glasshoughton Welfare on Tuesday night.
All the goals came in the second half as hosts ‘Houghton made it tough for the table toppers.
Hemsworth took the lead when Jason Yates netted on 65 minutes and the home side equalised on 80 through an Adam Walsh strike.
But any thoughts Welfare had of gaining a point were dashed within two minutes as Danville scored the winner.
Danville signed from Pontefract Collieries last week with Wells boss Wayne Benn hoping the player’s experience of promotion last season can help his team get over the line this year.
The result took Hemsworth eight points clear at the top and they also have a game in hand over second-placed AFC Mansfield.
Hemsworth were back to winning ways in good style last Saturday when they beat Selby Town 5-2.
Danny Critchlow gave them a flying start with the opener after just two minutes, but they had to wait until the 37th minute for a second goal from Shane Kelsey.
Selby hit back after the break with Chris Jackson netting on 68 minutes, but within two minutes Wells restored their two-goal advantage, Harry Viggars finding the back of the net.
Critchlow then added his second and although Luke Thompson pulled a goal back for the visitors, Jason Yates’ 90th minute penalty sealed a 5-2 success.
More away games follow for Hemsworth as they travel to play Eccleshill United this Saturday (3pm) and Dronfield Town next Tuesday (7.45pm).
