A mother and her two young children escaped a house fire in South Elmsall today (Saturday).
The mum, who was asleep with her one-year-old child on the settee, was roused by a smoke alarm after a blaze broke out in a bedroom.
Her other child, six, then came running and they all fled the house on the Priory Estate, near Main Street at about 4.43pm.
A spokesman from South Elmsall Fire Station said if they hadn’t have had a smoke alarm then “she could have died in her sleep along with her one-year-old who was sleeping next to her”.
The fire service spokesman said parts of the house had suffered extensive damage and it was uninhabitable.
