Hemsworth MP Jon Trickett has backed the Express Christmas Toy Appeal 2013 by donating gifts for a lucky girl and a boy.

Mr Trickett handed over the toys to appeal co-ordinator Gemma Jimmison earlier this month. He has urged residents to continue donating so that every youngster in the south east of Wakefield can enjoy Christmas.

He said: “The Express Christmas Toy appeal is a great idea and I am happy to support it. I know how people are struggling to pay their bills and Christmas is always an expensive time, particularly for those with families. By donating a toy you can help make Christmas the special time it should be for every child.”

We are asking our readers to donate a new, unwrapped gift for children aged from newborn to 17.

The toys will be donated to Wakefield Council’s family support team in Hemsworth and distributed to needy and neglected children throughout the area.

Gifts can be dropped off at the Hemsworth Town Council Community Centre, Bullenshaw Road, Hemsworth, the Westfield Centre, Westfield lane, South Elmsall, or the Express office, Front Street, Pontefract. The closing date is noon on Thursday, December 12.

Appeal co-ordinator Gemma Jimmison said: “We are so pleased that Jon has decided to back the campaign - his donations are very much appreciated. The gifts will make some children very happy on Christmas morning.”
