The Express Christmas Toy Appeal 2014 has been given a welcome boost by Hemsworth MP Jon Trickett.

Mr Trickett handed over his gifts earlier this month and has urged people to dig deep for the campaign, which is collecting toys for underprivileged children in the south east at Christmas time.

He said: “I am pleased to help launch the Express Toy Appeal.

“It is getting tougher and tougher for some families to meet their living costs and the expense of Christmas can drive some into debt. I hope those who can will respond by helping children who otherwise may go without at Christmas.”

The Express is asking our readers to donate a new gift for children aged from newborn to 17.

The toys will be donated to Wakefield Council’s family services team in Hemsworth and distributed to needy and neglected children throughout the area.

Appeal co-ordinator Gemma Jimmison said: “We are so pleased that Jon has decided to back the campaign for the second year running - his donations are once again very much appreciated.”

Toys can be dropped off at the Hemsworth Town Council Community Centre on Bullenshaw Road, The Grove, South Kirkby, and the Westfield Centre, South Elmsall.

Gifts should be unwrapped so that family services can distribute them to the right child. The closing date for donations is 5pm on Friday, December 12.
