A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a pensioner in Hemsworth.
Neil Brand, 26, is alleged to have murdered Trevor Leighton (pictured) at the Southmoor Hotel on August 14, 2011. Mr Leighton was the caretaker at the Southmoor Road Hotel.
Brand spoke only to confirm his name and age during a brief hearing at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court today.
Chairman of the bench Steve Jones said the case must be dealt with at crown court because of the nature and seriousness of the offence.
Brand was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Leeds Crown Court this morning.
