Zumbathon will drum up donations for charities

A LATINO-fused fitness craze is set to benefit four charities.

Zumba teacher Lauren Siddons, who takes classes at Minsthorpe Sports Centre and in The Alpha Club, Hemsworth, will lead more than 70 charitable fitness fans through a three-hour zumbathon on Saturday.

The challenge will raise money for four causes – the Madison’s Dream appeal, which is raising money to set up a sensory unit in South Kirkby in memory of Madison Murray, a coast-to-coast bike ride in aid of St James’ Hospital Foundation, Diabetes UK and the Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract.

Miss Siddons, 21 , of Station Road, Hemsworth, said: “Some of Madison’s mum’s friends come to my Zumba class at Minsthorpe and it was them who approached me to see if I would hold a charity event, and my good friends Jordon Burton and Mark Turner recently did a coast-to-coast bike ride so I wanted to help raise funds for them too as it was something close to my heart.

“When speaking to the rest of the ladies who come to my classes they wanted to also raise funds for the local Price of Wales Hospice as it is close to a lot of peoples hearts, and I chose Diabetes UK because my best friend suffers from diabetes and I have grown up seeing how this effects her and want to help.

“We are hoping to make a lot of money for the charities “

Miss Siddons said she had received fantastic support from the community, with raffle prizes being donated and Minsthorpe Sports Centre donating the hall for free.

Participants can still sign up to take part for one, two or three hours and registration for the event begins at 9am, with Zumba from 10am to 1pm.
