Youngsters across the country were being encouraged to enjoy reading and get dressed up as their favourite book character for World Book Day yesterday.

Here are some of the children from Havercroft J&I School dressed up for the event.

Eight books were available for children to buy for £1 for World Book Day, including Tony Robinson’s Weird World of Wonders: Funny Inventions and Horrid Henry’s Guide to Perfect Parents by Francesca Simon and Tony Ross
