AN OPENING date could be in sight for a former pub at Hemsworth Water Park.

The Windsurfer - which closed in February 2009 due to a market downturn, lack of public support and anti-social behaviour - has been transformed into a cafe and children’s soft play area by Hemsworth Town Council.

The building - now called the Lakeside Cafe and Soft Play Area - could open by the end of this month providing some minor, last-minute jobs can be finished in time.

The new facility, which will provide hot and cold drinks and cooked food from snacks to full meals, will be open seven days a week between 11.30am and 4.30pm, with extended opening hours during the summer period, depending on demand.

The soft play area is suitable for children up to the age of seven.

Town clerk Tina Pattison said the cafe and play area would attract more families to the water park and compliment the facilities already there.

The Hoyle Mill Road park already boasts two lakes, with fishing facilities, pedalo rides, paddle boards and canoes, sandy beaches, Playworld - an outdoor adventure playground - and a miniature railway.

Residents of Kinsley, Fitzwilliam and Kinsley can get a permit for £2, which entitles them to free parking and free entry into Playworld and discounts on fishing tickets.

Under 13s can get a free permit.
