A taste of the wild west comes to Hemsworth next week as college students stage a production of the Irving Berlin classic Annie Get Your Gun.

Students at Hemsworth Arts and Community College will be perfoming the musical about sharpshooting Annie Oakley who falls in love with her opponent Frank Butler.

The pupils will be belting out their versions of the hit songs including “There’s No Business Like Show Business”, “Doin’ What Comes Natur’lly”, “You Can’t Get a Man with a Gun” and “Anything You Can Do.”

Eleanor Aldous, drama teacher, said: “The students are all really excited about the performance, we’ve been rehearsing three times a week since January and have our last run through this weekend.

“There has been lots of laughter in rehearsals as the students have been practicing their southern drawls. There have been some funny accents.

“Megan Sharp, who has is playing the lead has been working flat out. She been in most of our performances and is going on to university to study drama.”

Tickets costs £3 for adults and £2 for concessions and £8 for a family ticket (two adults and two children) and can be bought by calling the college’s reception on 01977 624220.

The show will run from Tuesday to Thursday and doors will open at 7pm. There will be a special matinee performance for the primary school children in the area on Monday.
