Top cop given new head role

A NEW police officer has taken over the reigns in Hemsworth.

PC Sally Court became the new ward manager on Friday and will now be the first point of contact for anyone in the town.

She has replaced PC Junaid Farooq - who held the position for the past three years.

PC Court previously worked on the neighbourhood support team for the South East Neighbourhood Policing Team.

She said: “I am really excited about my new role and really looking forward to getting more involved in the community.”

The main issues she hopes to tackle are parking, anti-social behaviour, burglaries and drug issues.

Her new role means she will chair all community meetings and be on hand if anyone has concerns about crime in the area.

She has worked in the town for the past three years and already has many contacts with residents.

She said: “I have built up a great partnership with people in the South East of the district but am keen to improve on that.

“I want to assure residents that anyone who contacts me will get a response from me. I just want to make Hemsworth as crime-free as it can be and make it a nicer place for residents to live.”

PC Court started her policing career working as a special constable for two years and has been a police officer for the past 27 years.

She was born in Upton and went to Minsthorpe Community College.

Inspector Geoff Carter, head of the South East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “PC Farooq did a fantastic job as ward manager but is now moving on to pastures new and I welcome PC Court to her new role.

“I am confident she will continue to help make Hemsworth a safer place to live.”
