Football tournament and dance show to raise cash for Madison's Dream - The Mystique Dance Troupe

HUNDREDS of football fanatics got together to raise more than £1,000 for the Madison’s Dream Fund.

Twelve teams took part in the event at Minsthorpe College’s sports centre on Saturday and hundreds of people watched the matches, as well as supporting the cause.

Dance group Mystique Majorettes opened the event with a flag routine before four hours of football started began.

The Nags were crowned winners of the event.

Madison Murray was diagnosed with muscle wasting Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) when she was born in November last year. Her family were told she could live to just six months, but she sadly died in her parents’ arms at just 17 weeks old in March.

Her parents Laura Kendall and Jason Murray decided to raise £20,000 to fund a sensory unit in their daughter’s memory, and now, with the £1,220 raised at the football tournament, along with cash from other fundraising events, the family have a staggering £44,200.

The unit will help other children with similar disorders who benefit from bright lights and sounds like their daughter had.

Miss Kendall said: “We are overwhelmed with the support from the community and cannot believe we have raised this much money.

“We hope work will start on the unit in the next couple of months.”

She thanked everyone who came and supported the event, JJ Leisure, of South Elmsall, who provided the trophies, Howden’s Joinery of Barnsley, who sponsored the event and Ray Wellins from the Minsthorpe Hotel, where the after party was held, complete with bouncy castle and karaoke.

They are also hosting a psychic night at the South Kirkby cricket club, off Stockingate, this evening.

Entry is £5 and can be paid on the door.
