Taxis are suspended
TAXI drivers came under scrutiny when licenesing officers went out on patrol in the south east.
Wakefield Council’s licensing department paired up with the neighbourhood policing team to carry out spot checks on the vehicles last weekend to ensure taxis and private hire vehicles were meeting standards.
Ten private hire vehicles were stopped and two were suspended from driving.
The combined team found a defective tyre on one vehicle and the condition of a tyre and its brake lights on another did not meet licensing standards.
Another driver was also told to display their ID badge.
Bernadette Livesey, Wakefield Council’s service director for legal and governance, said: “The council and the police carried out a licensing operation in the Hemsworth area on Saturday to check the safety of private hire vehicles.
“These enforcement operations are carried out regularly across the district to ensure the safety of the public.”
