Surgery stays open

RUMOURS a doctors' surgery in Upton will be closing down are unfounded.

NHS Wakefield District has confirmed Greenview Medical Centre, on Waggon Lane, will remain open after residents became concerned an urgent meeting called to discuss health provision could lead to its closure.

The meeting was held to launch a new patient public participation forum, which allows patients to have their say about the services and facilities offered by the practice.

Dr Mark Napper, medical director at NHS Wakefield District, said: “We are committed to keeping an effective GP practice in Upton and will take all action necessary to make sure patients in Upton receive the highest quality of care possible.”

The next forum meeting will be held at 7.15pm on Wednesday, March 17, at Upton Village Hall, Harewood Lane.
