Spooky scenes for Hallowe’en
GRUESOME monsters, hairy werewolves and spooky ghosts were spotted emerging from the shadows to give people a scare this week.
But there was no reason to be alarmed - it was just children celebrating Hallowe’en with fancy dress parties across the district.
More than 200 people turned out at South Kirkby Cricket Club for the annual party arranged by Park Estate, Convent Avenue, and Burntwoood Estate residents association (PECABE) on Saturday.
Organiser Betty Paxman said: “It was a wonderful night. It went really well.
“There were a lot more people that came this year and I got to the stage where I was having to watch how many were coming in.”
Children took part in a disco, ate up all the buffet and there were also competitions for the best fancy-dress.
Mrs Paxman added: “The kids absolutely loved it. They looked an absolute picture and I was really pleased with how it went.
“We had a lot of support this year and I’m very grateful to everyone who helped out.”
Meanwhile in Hemsworth children at West End Primary School broke up for their half-term break with a Hallowe’en disco.
The disco, which was organised by Friends of West End School, saw monsters and werewolves dancing in the school hall.
Also wearing their scary costumes were youngsters at All Saints Community Centre, Barnsley Road, South Kirkby.
They enjoyed lots of activities on Monday including apple bobbing, pass the pumpkin and even got their little hands on brains - which was actually a concoction of cooked spaghetti, food colouring and jelly.
Louise Siddons, who helped organise the party, said it was really good fun and all the children enjoyed it.
She thanked everyone who donated items for the event.
