Sgt Emma's farewell to South Kirkby

A POLICE sergeant who is leaving the local force after five months has described her time in the Express area as the 'best in her career'.

Sgt Emma Aldred, who has been in the force for almost 10 years, joined South Kirkby neighbourhood police team in August.

She has been led a team covering the South Elmsall, Moorthorpe and South Kirkby areas.

Sgt Aldred said she had encouraged community engagement by leading Police and Communities Together meetings and neighbourhood forums across the patch.

She said: "It's been about resolving community issues on a long-term basis rather than a quick fix.

"I've got nearly 10 years' service with the police and the last five months have been the best by far.

"The community has had some challenging problems which have been nice to address and get my teeth into. I've enjoyed my time here and am disappointed I can't continue."

Sgt Aldred, whose last day is today, will be moving to Wakefield Rural NPT.

She said: "It shows what can happen when people work together. I want to thank people in the community for their time and support. I've met some nice people along the way."

Sgt Julie Fitzpatrick, who has served in the police force for 15 years and has a background in road traffic, will be taking over her role.

For the past four years she has been part of a motorway unit at Carr Gate, Wakefield.

Sgt Fitzpatrick said: "I'm looking forward to the challenges. There will be a lot to learn but hopefully I will be able to contribute. I'm looking for people's support and I encourage them to meet the team."
